8. Invert the image. You now have a Channel Mask that you can use to paint the wood grain. |

9. Target the composite channel--the one at the top of the Channels Palette--by clicking on it. Fill with a light yellow or brown color. This will be the base color for your wood.
Note: It's a good idea to apply each of these color additions to a separate layer. It is not necessary to do this, but editing of your image will be much easier. |

10. Load the wood grain Channel Mask as a selection. Feather the selection about 10 pixels and fill with a darker brown color. (The amount of feathering needed will be dependent on the image resolution; the higher the resolution, the more feathering needed.)
